Musical Theatre
The DPA Musical Theatre classes are taught in a structured and fun environment. Each term a different musical production or theme is explored where your child will learn how to sing, dance and act, as we nurture and encourage your child to develop their confidence, creativity and communication skills.
Weekly classes are held during term time and are split into three classes with equal time devoted to singing, dancing and acting.
At the end of each term the various songs, routines and drama pieces learnt will be showcased to friends and family. Pupils will also have the opportunity to perform their work in local theatres and community events.
Classes take place at Worplesdon Memorial Hall on Saturday's at the following times:
Musical Theatre 10:30 - 11:15am 5 years +
Musical Theatre 12:30 - 1.15pm 8 years +
Below is an outline of what your child will learn when attending our Musical Theatre classes.
SINGING
In singing we focus on improving children’s quality of speech and encourage good vocal technique. Each class will start with a vocal warm up, including breathing techniques, pitch and vocal timing. The class will then learn the main song of the term, where they will get to experiment with solo and group singing.
DANCE
In dance we focus on improving children’s fitness, posture and quality of movement. The class will start with an energetic aerobic warm-up and technique work. Throughout the term we will introduce a range of different dance styles and genres. The focus is on encouraging self-expression and creativity through dance.
DRAMA
In drama your child will be encouraged to work collaboratively with others. The class will challenge each individual to develop their role-play, improvisation, characterisation and theatrical skills. We will work on different styles from Mime, Physical Theatre, Musical Theatre and Pantomime. Over time you will see your child's social skills and stage presence improve as they gain confidence in themselves.
